Special Program for Women:

Bed-Stuy Women Infants & Children (WIC)
This programs is a special supplemental and nutritional for pregnant, and breastfeeding women and their children up to age five. We provide help for nutritious foods and nutrition education. We promote a healthy lifestyle and breastfeeding, as well as make program referrals to health care and other community services. Our vision is to ensure that all women have access to care so they can deliver healthy babies and raise healthy children. Participants receive food checks to purchase particular foods each month which are designed to supplement their diets with specific nutrients that promote optimal health.

This program is designed for:
  • - Children who are under 5 years old, pregnant women;
  • - Breastfeeding mothers of babies up to 12 months old; and
  • - Mothers of babies up to 6 months old

WIC also recognizes and promotes breastfeeding as the optimal source of nutrition for infants. For women who do not fully breastfeed, WIC provides iron-fortified infant formula. Special infant formulas and medical foods may be provided when prescribed by a physician for a specified medical condition. Our services help to prevent and reduce obesity by providing culturally sensitive participant-centered nutrition and breastfeeding education. We serve program participants with dignity and refer them to appropriate health care and support services to help them achieve optimal health.
