The Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center has a
full staff of culturally sensitive male and female physicians
and staff. We speak English, Spanish, French Creole and
many other dialects. For the Deaf, signing capability is also
on-site. To see additional photos of the staff, please visit the
Photo Gallery page.
The Bed Stuy community continues to be the epicenter of New York
City’s health care crisis with higher than average rates
of HIV, AIDS, Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension and other chronic
diseases.
Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is currently
located in a 10,000 square foot rented space and is building a
brand new health center across the street that will be owned by
BSFHC.
BSFHC’s new headquarters will not only increase access
to desperately needed quality, affordable health care in the neighborhood,
but will also be an impetus for economic growth and sustained
educational and social development, as BSFHC has been for the
past 27 years.
The new health center is thus more than a new building. It represents
a renewed investment in the comprehensive health care of Bedford
Stuyvesant — an area that has lagged for too long behind
the city and nation in the indicators of healthy living, behavioral
health and wellness. In the new 40,000 square foot facility,
BSFHC will be able to serve all of the primary health care needs
of more than 20,000 Brooklyn residents.
The City Council has been generous in its support for this worthy
project. Others contributing to this project have included the
New York State Department of Health with a pledge of $1 million,
and the Primary Care Development Corporation, which has provided
soft loans for site acquisition and supplementary design, as well
as other technical assistance.

BSFHC’s new facility will cost a total of $19 million.
Our Capital Campaign is well underway and the City Council’s
commitment has helped leverage significant support from the
private sector.
Financing will be obtained through a combination of loans and
grants from fundraising and government sources. Construction will
commence in the summer of 2005 and be completed within 18 months
in the winter of 2006.
